Creating or Updating Internet SOCS Articles
Home users must have the most recent version of Java Script (downloaded from http://sun.java.com)
Citrix users don't have to worry about it.
* Open Internet Explorer to DavidCityPublic School's home page (http://davidcitypublicschools.org) .
* Click on Teacher Resources (found on the left side).
* Click on Web Editors.
* A dialog box will appear. Enter your email address and your SOCS password:
* Click on Editor (left side).
* Another dialog box will appear:
Enter your individual username and password (username are usually the same as your email address.
To Create a new article
* Click on Create Article.
* Don't do anything in the next page, just hit continue>>article editor at the top.
* Enter a Headline and Tagline (if desired)
* In the big box, (the editor) type whatever you wish to show on your web page..
SUGGESTION: Type into WORD first, then copy and paste into text box (helps with grammatical and spelling errors).
* Make these other recommended selections found further down the page as desired.
Recommendations:
1. No End Date
2. Do not mess with Priority
3. Approval should be checked
4. Do not mess with Assigned Editor
* When finished, click Preview at the bottom of the page. This will show you spelling errors and how it will look on the web page.
* Close the Preview window and correct errors in the Editor Window if you have any.
* IMPORTANT:Click on Submit Article when you are finished. This saves your work and omitting it will cause you to become even more frustrated with technology.
*
To SEARCH and edit an existing article:
* Click the Editor link found on the left side.
* Select Search Articles.
* Select Your Name in the article author box.
* Select Any Section.
* Leave Keywords blank.
* Under heading status, click on the All button.
* Leave dates as any
*
Click on Search button.
* Find your article and click on the icon under edit.
*
*
Perform editing on your article as
desired.
* IMPORTANT:Click on Submit Article at the bottom of the page when you are finished. This saves your work and omitting it will cause you to become even more frustrated with technology.
SPECIAL HINTS
If you don't like having to scroll in your SOCS editor so you can see the entire edit section, here's something you can do to eliminate the problem:
Once the editor is open, go to the View menu then pull down to Window View. When you do this the entire editing page will show up.
Unfortunately, you still
have to close this window (by clicking the X in the upper right
corner) to get to your other options below the editor, but it does
make the job easier.
