March 22, 2007
Twelve new members were formally inducted into the David City Chapter of the National Honor Society. The new members are sophomores Abbi B., Hannah B., Miranda F., Casey H., Michaela H., Andrew M., Morgan O., Nolan V., and Travis W.; junior Gina P., and seniors Christy C. and Lindsey G.
The induction ceremony was held at Winfield's at noon on Wednesday, March 21. NHS President Brent Griffiths welcomed those in attendance to the ceremony and started the candle lighting ceremony of induction by speaking about knowledge. Michael Palomaki, vice president; Kyle Clymer, secretary; Kate Byrkit, treasurer; and Kirby Hecker, historian/parliamentarian then each spoke on the four ideals of the honor society--scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
After the inductees pledged to uphold the purposes of the honor society, the new members and their families enjoyed a potluck dinner provided by the old members and their families.
Membership into the David City High School chapter requires a 91.5 accumulative grade point average. After gathering information from the interested eligible candidates and from the faculty, a committee of five faculty members evaluates the candidates on their service, leadership, and character.
