What Should You Do?

That is the question the fifth graders will be equipped to answer.  We have been studying weather and weather safety.  After we finish, all students will know what to do in thunderstorm, tornado, in lightning, and even a hurricane.  They have also learned how weather forecasting works and what we can learn from watching the weather on T.V.  They were excited to have T.V. watching as part of their homework, but disappointed when I changed it to be more specific and only the weather.

The sixth grade science class has finished the unit on the star cycle and did a nice job on the writing assessment.  Now we have started our study of the moon phases and the seasons. Next is the topic of our solar system.  Hopefully, things will get finished in time to make a 3-D model of the planets.

Both reading groups are progressing quickly.  The fifth grade finished their book and can now move into the 6th grade text book.  The sixth grade group has made it farther than other groups in the past.  They are hard workers and are doing well with their mastery tests.

In social studies, we have covered the period of movement west and are examining how our country looked before the Civil War.  The Civil War will be the last major assessment we take in social studies.

In writing we will soon be taking the big writing assessment.  We will be reviewing our writing skills and traits and then putting them together for one fantastic piece of writing.  The students did a great job on their research, reports, and presentations earlier.  It was a big project to accomplish!

As we are winding down the year, it is important for everyone to remember to finish strong.  The weather gets nicer and it gets more difficult to concentrate on the work in front of us, but we have lots to fit in to the last few weeks of school.  Please continue to make sure your child is being responsible by getting planners signed, homework completed, and notes returned to school.
