Third graders have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring. Now that “spring has finally sprung,” there are signs of new life everywhere including the animal world. On Friday, April 25h, third graders visited the annual petting zoo sponsored by the David City FFA chapter. Students had a first-hand opportunity to experience baby animals in a “hands on” setting.
In math class, students have been continuing to “brush up” on learning
multiplication facts, and how they relate to division. Various strategies, including the partial-product method and the lattice method of multiplying, have been introduced to help students calculate multi-digit problems. Using word problems with mixed operations is also being covered. We will finish the school reviewing units of measure.
Did you know that in order to become president a candidate must be 35 years old? Students in Social Studies class have been learning about what qualities good leaders of government should possess. They also have learned the leaders and their responsibilities at all a three levels of government. Knowing and obeying the various rules and laws of our community, state and nation have also been discussed.
In language class third graders recently shared poetry selections as a part of their oral presentation requirement. Each student selected a poem and then read it before their classroom audience using their own personal interpretations. Students will also be completing their final writing assessment where they describe going to their favorite place and what made it special to them.
Science students in 3-D have been learning facts about the individual planets,
and how they move in the solar system. Science in 3-O found us creating simple machines using very simple objects like string, spools, and straws. We will soon be exploring many different careers in the science world.
As teachers, we have experienced a rewarding and pleasant year with our students. We appreciate all of the parental help and support given throughout the year. Thank you for sharing your child with us.
