NHS Wants You to Click It

Only 43% of the adults and students arriving at the high school on Wednesday, Oct. 10, were wearing their seat belts. The National Honor Society conducted a surprise observation to see how DCHS measured up to the State of Nebraska's goal of 85% safety belt usage in 2007. It seems that there is lots of room for improvement.
The honor society will be promoting seat belt usage throughout the year, supporting the Click It--Don't Risk It program sponsored by the Nebraska Coalition to Save Lives Through Safety Belt Usage.
The compliance rate for using belts in personal vehicles in Nebraska in 2006 was 76%. In the observation conducted at DCHS, only 34% of the student drivers and their passengers were buckled up. The adults and their passengers scored somewhat better but still only 63% of them were wearing seatbelts.
The National Honor Society encourages everyone to develop the habit of buckling up!
