December 17 – 21, should have been a week off from ball games, but due to bad weather and State One-Act the Lady Scouts had two opponents to deal with prior to break. The Lady Scouts traveled to North Bend, Monday, December 17, to face the Lady Tigers. The North Bend Lady Tigers have always been a tough opponent, but they had lost the majority of their varsity team from last year. The Lady Scouts went into the game optimistic looking for their first win. The first half of the ball game was close with the Lady Tigers taking a three point advantage with them to the locker room. The Lady Scouts had not played a poor first half, but had certainly not played as well as they knew they could. The second half of the ball game belonged to the Lady Tigers, outscoring the Lady Scouts 31 to 8. Turnovers again seemed to be the main culprit which prevented the Lady Scouts from running their offense. The Tiger defense shut down the inside production that the Lady Scouts had relied on in earlier games and they were unable to get the outside game going. Morgan O. led the Lady Scouts with 6 points, while Hannah B. contributed 5 and Sabrina M. 4. Leading the way in rebounds were Hannah B. and Rebecca H. with 5 each. The team ended the evening shooting 9 of 22 from the floor for 41% and 9 of 13 from the free throw line for 69%.
Thursday, December 20, took the Lady Scouts to the home of the Lady Panthers of Fillmore Central. Both teams were 0-5 to begin the evening and someone would be walking away with that precious first win. Unfortunately, for the Lady Scouts, their trend from the previous 3 games would continue. The first half produced a tied score of 18. The Lady Scouts talked about staying out of foul trouble and taking care of the basketball to insure more offensive opportunities. The second half of the ball game remained close until the final buzzer and unfortunately the Lady Scouts were not on the winning side of the scoreboard. The game ended 41 to 34 in favor of the Lady Panthers. The team shot 15 of 43 from the floor for 35% and 4 of 7 from the free throw line for 57%. The team collected 34 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 steals, and 8 blocks. However, the 38 turnovers outweighed the positives this time around. Leading the way for the Lady Scouts was Hannah B. with 18 points and 16 rebounds. Morgan O. added 6 points along with the 4 points each contributed by Rebecca H. and Nikki R. Morgan O. pulled down 10 rebounds and Rebecca H. added 4 to the effort.
