Holiday Tournament Not Quite the Present the Lady Scouts Were Looking For

The David City Lady Scouts opened the Holiday Tournament Thursday, December 27 with North Bend. The two teams had met just 10 days earlier with North Bend coming out on top with a 26 point victory. The Lady Scouts started off strong with a 14 to 7 lead in the first quarter, as to say, we are not going to give you this one. However, the tides turned in the second quarter when North Bend held David City to just 1 point. The North Bend Lady Tigers maintained control for the remainder of the game. The game felt like déjà vu because both times the teams met, the Lady Tigers went to the locker room at half time with only a three point lead and the Lady Scouts never bounced back in the second half. The first meeting resulted in a 26 point differential and the second meeting ended with a 25 point difference. The Lady Scouts were led by Hannah B. with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Morgan O. and Megan R. contributed 7 and 6 points respectively. Rebecca H. added 5 rebounds to the tally. The Lady Scouts shot 11 of 32 from the floor for 34% and 6 of 17 from the free throw line for 35% resulting in a 53 to 28 loss.
The second day of the tournament, December 28, was a bit nicer to the Lady Scouts, but not nice enough. The Lady Scouts faced the Fullerton Lady Warriors for third place. The Lady Scouts again took a first quarter lead 11 to 6. A fair second quarter sent the Lady Scouts to the locker room with a 1 point deficit. However, the Lady Scouts were outscored 28 to 20 in the second half of the ball game for a 38 to 47 defeat. The Lady Scouts were led by Hannah B. with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Morgan O. and Rebecca H. contributed 7 points and 6 points respectively. Rebecca H. added 7 rebounds, while Morgan O. added 4. The team shot 16 of 50 from the floor for 32% and 6 of 16 for 37.5% from the free throw line. The Lady Scouts were in the ball game for the entire four quarters due to the fact that they were able to limit their turnovers to 18 for the game, which has been a challenge they have faced since the second game of the season.
