Third In A Row For Lady Scouts

The David City Lady Scouts got their third win in a row Friday, January 25 against Shelby.  The Lady Scouts won 45 to 40.  The Scouts were ahead 21 to 14 at half time and came out in the third quarter scoring 14 to their 6.  The Lady Huskies of Shelby had a great fourth quarter, which caused the Lady Scouts to hang on for dear life at the end of the ball game.  Hannah B. led the Lady Scouts with 20 points, Morgan O. with 10, and Megan R. and Rebecca H. added 4 apiece.  Morgan O. led the way in rebounding with 7, Hannah B. contributed 6, and Rebecca H added 5 to the effort.  The team shot 15 of 50 from the floor for 30% and 15 of 26 from the free throw line for 57.7%.  The Lady Scouts pulled down 28 rebounds, provided 8 assists, stole the ball 11 times, and blocked 7 Lady Husky shots.  The Lady Scouts turned the ball over 25 times costing them valuable possessions, in what ended up being a close game.  The Lady Huskies were 15 of 40 from the floor for 37.5% and 8 of 16 from the free throw line for 50%.  Shelby had 21 rebounds, 29 turnovers, 5 assists, 7 steals, and 1 block on the night.

Saturday, January 26, the Lady Scouts traveled two hours to take on Sandy Creek in the first round of the Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament.  The Lady Scouts ended their winning streak losing to Sandy Creek 52 to 31.  The game was a rough one and the Lady Scouts could not hold their own in the battle.  The first quarter set the tone for the game with the Lady Scouts falling behind 4 to 20 to the Lady Cougars.  The Lady Scouts were led by Megan R. with 10 points.  Morgan O. and Hannah B. added 7 and 6 respectively.  Hannah B. led rebounding with 5 and Morgan O. and Rebecca H. added 4 each.  The team was 14 of 35 from the floor for 40% and 3 of 7 from the free throw line for 42.9%.  The Scouts had 27 rebounds, 10 assists, 7 steals, 5 blocks, and 30 turnovers for the day.  The Lady Cougars were 16 of 40 from the floor for 40% from the floor and 16 of 26 from the free throw line for 61.5%.  The Lady Cougars had 19 rebounds, 12 assists, 6 steals, and 11 turnovers on the day.  Due to their win, Sandy Creek went on to play Milford on Monday, January 28.  Milford defeated Sandy Creek to move on in the tournament where they will meet Heartland.

The Lady Scouts varsity is off until next week when they take on Osceola on Tuesday, February 5 and Wilber-Clatonia on Friday, February 8 to end their regular season.  The JV will be in action on Saturday, February 2 at the Rising City JV Tournament.  The Scouts first game will be at 11:00AM.  The Reserves will be in action on Thursday, January 31 at Shelby and Monday, February 4 at home against Raymond Central.
