FFA Week Celebrated

by Jim Angell

February 23, 2008

The week was a lot of fun for FFA members as well as other students throughout the system. Monday materials and instructions were distributed to all sixth period classes in David City Middle-School and High School classes. The materials were to allow students to decorate the classroom doors by creating a poster with this year’s them which was “Bright Futures Through FFA” The posters had to be finished and on display by 4:00 PM Thursday February 22nd in order to be judged.

The winning classroom in the 2008 FFA Week Door Decorating Contest was Mrs. Sander's sixth period Earth Science class.

The posters were judged using several criteria.  First of all judges looked to see if the theme "Bright Futures Through FFA" was implemented. Originality was important as well as being eye catching and the overall impressiveness of the poster.

All the judges selected the same poster as their top choice as the contest winner.

The second place classroom was Spanish I with Ms. Messerer as the teacher and third place went to the American History class taught by Mr. Willis.

The FFA Chapter appreciates all of the excellent posters that were created for this year's contest.  Thanks for you efforts, you are all winners.

Tuesday the staff at the Middle-School/High School enjoyed treats furnished by the FFA.

Wednesday was a very important day activity wise as it will help people in the community. Wednesday was hat day which allowed students to wear their hats to school. Any hat that was not agriculture related cost the person $1.00. Even though only $5.00 was collected the FFA is making a $100.00 donation to the local food pantry through Blue Valley. The decision to make the cash donation rather than purchasing food was made because they can get a lot more food for $100.00 than we could purchase with the $100.00.

Thursday found FFA members wearing their FFA T-shirts to school as a means of making people aware of our members and the organization.

Friday the winners of the Coloring Contest for Grades one through three were announced. The top three students in each of the grades will receive gift certificates to spend at Sue’s Just A Buck along with Certificates of Accomplishment from the FFA Chapter. The FFA members appreciate Mrs. Meusch’s help in getting the coloring contest completed. The winners for the coloring contest are as follows:
