NHS Inducts New Members
Seven new members were inducted into the David City High School Chapter of the National Honor Society. The new members are senior Katie H, juniors Kalie B, Ashley J, Tara M, and Broderick S, and sophomores Staci O and Aaron S.
The induction was held at Winfield's on Friday, March 14, at noon. Amanda Miller, NHS president, welcomed those in attendance and began the candle lighting ceremony by lighting and speaking about the candle of knowledge. NHS is built around the virtues of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Vice president Travis Worm, Secretary Morgan Otte, Treasurer Michaela Hruska, and Historian/Parliamentarian Hannah Behrens spoke about each of the four virtues.
After the inductees took the NHS pledge, everyone enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner provided by the old members and their parents.
All sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a 91.5 GPA are eligible for membership. After eligible students are identified and information is obtained from those eligible and the faculty, a five-member faculty council evaluates the candidates in the areas of service, leadership, and character. From these evaluations, membership is determined.
