Scoop staffers qualify for State Journalism

by Larry Griffiths

April 19, 2008

Results are in from the preliminary round of the state journalism contest, which determines who goes on to compete at the state finals on May 5.  Back in February, the Scoop staff, with the help of adviser Mr. Griffiths, chose some of their best-written articles from previous issues to send in to the first round of judging.  In order to qualify for state finals, an individual must place first in their class in an event or be named to the top 12 overall in all classes for that event.

Junior Michaela H. won Class C editorial writing and was also named to the top 12, and junior Travis W.  placed first in Class C sports feature writing as well as being in the top 12.  Both will compete in the final contest at UNL on May 5.

Junior Jesse B. just missed making it to the state finals because he placed second in Class C entertainment writing and third in Class C sports news writing.

Other members of the staff who competed but didn't place in the preliminary contest are sophomore Michael B. and senior Samantha H.

      Congratulations!
