Wrapping Things Up
By Mr. Hermelbracht
April 20, 2008
This year the David City Elementary took part in Safe Routes Nebraska’s first annual “Walk or Bike to School Day” on April 23rd. This event was set up to promote healthy lifestyles and to encourage our young people to get and stay healthy by simply walking to and from school by using a safe route set up by parents. We had a very large number of students and staff members participate in this event, over a 180 students and staff that walked or biked to school that day. This event was a great success and I would like thank all who participated.
With the year coming to an end the elementary students at David City are finishing up fitness testing. Over the last 3 weeks all the elementary students were tested on their upper body strength, cardiovascular endurance, muscle flexibility, and agility. Students that rank above the top 50th percentile in the United States on all five tests will receive the National Fitness Award. Students that rank above the top 85th percentile in the United States will receive the Presidential Fitness Award. Awards will be handed out on May 16th.
Also with the year coming to an end comes Fun Day. Fun Day is scheduled for the 15th of May. On this day students will eat lunch and do a variety of activities at the park starting at 11:15. Anyone wanting to volunteer their time to help with this event can call Mr. Hermelbracht at the elementary school between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm, all volunteers will be greatly appreciated.
