Binder and or notebook for each class; Paper; Pens and/or pencils; Scientific calculator
*If your child will be taking physical
science, 7th grade math, 8th grade math,
pre-algebra, algebra, applied math, standards math, or geometry, we
ask that he/she have his/her own SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR.
*If your child will be taking physics, chemistry, advanced algebra,
FST, or PDM, we strongly recommend the purchase of a
graphing calculator. (TI-83 and TI 83 Plus are used at school)
*Please see more detailed calculator information following.
3. Safety equipment such as goggles will be provided by the school.
4. Musical instruments can be the responsibility of the student unless they qualify for the waiver.
5. Course projects that become the property of the student will be charged for unless they qualify for the waiver.

CALCULATOR INFORMATION:
If your child will be taking physical science, 7th grade math, 8th grade math, pre-algebra, algebra, applied math, standards math, or geometry, we ask that he/she have his/her own SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR. We also ask that he/she bring this to class with him/her every single day.
If your child will be enrolled in physics, chemistry, advanced algebra, FST, or PDM, we strongly recommend the purchase of a graphing calculator. We will be using a Texas Instruments model and encourage that brand when you make your purchase. The model numbers TI-83 or TI-83 Plus will be the calculators we use at school. (If you have a TI-82 model, this is also acceptable; we discovered the 83’s have a few more functions that we find convenient.) The calculators run anywhere from $85 to $100 and can be found at Target, Best buy, Wal-Mart, or any store with a decent electronics department.
The graphing calculator is a major purchase, but if your child plans to take upper-level science or mathematics courses at DCHS and/or they plan on attending a 4-year college it would be a wise investment. These calculators do more than they used to and are basically small versions of computers. If you believe this expense is not within your means, the school always has odd jobs your child could do to earn the money for the graphing calculator.
The school does have some graphing calculators that could be loaned out as we have done in the past, but this “checking out” process will be a little different. We have had students not returning these calculators and we spend money replacing them that could be spent in other technological areas. We would loan out a graphing calculator to those who need them in exchange for a $100 check. If the student returns the calculator in working condition at the end of the semester, they will receive the check back. (We must return the checks at the end of first semester and have you reissue a check for 2nd semester due to banking regulations.) If we do not receive the calculator back or it is not in working condition we will cash the check for the replacement. The student would be in charge of the calculator for the semester so he/she could take it home and use it or keep it locked in his/her locker when he/she is not using it.
