Hello from fifth grade!
The fifth graders have been studying European exploration of the Americas. They first read of Columbus’s four voyages to the New World. It was interesting for them to identify the products and animals exchanged between the New World and the Old World during the Columbian exchange. They also researched explorers and made displays of their researches.
In science, the fifth graders have begun studying ecosystems, all the various populations living in an area. They created food chains of the producers and consumers found in an area. They read about energy pyramids and how energy lessens as you reach the top of the pyramid.
The students continue to keep busy completing ECRI packets. They are reading AR books in hopes of completing their goals of the reading and testing of two books.
They have been comparing and contrasting various animals and people. They have placed that information on a Venn diagram.
In writing, the fifth graders have been writing stories including characters, the setting, and the plot. They had fun writing Halloween stories to share with their classmates.
Many of the fifth graders researched various stages of a presidential election. They made posters to share their information with others in the school. They also enjoyed the mock election and are very curious as to the results of the official election.
