First Grade News

Welcome to first grade. I am very excited to be working with your child and would like to take a minute to introduce myself. My husband Kenny, our five children, and I live west of Bellwood on an acreage. I am a Bellwood native and my husband is from the Surprise area. This is my second year teaching at Bellwood. I taught four years at the high school in David City. Six years prior to that were spent teaching in several rural schools in Butler County. My very first year was in Lubbock, Texas and an interesting adventure. I am glad to be working in Bellwood.
We have spent much of the first weeks of school adjusting to the challenges of first grade. We have been busy learning the procedures and routines, so that we can become independent workers. It will be amazing to see the growth and how much we have changed by the end of the year.
Your student will be bringing home an assignment notebook each day. Please look to see if there are notes or homework. Feel
free to write notes to me. This is a good way to keep in touch. Let me know if you have any concerns or if there is something your child really enjoyed. You may also contact me at school (402) 538-4805, my cell phone(402)641-2443, or email seickmei@esu7.org.
September is an exciting month as we will be getting Painted Lady caterpillars and watching to see what happens to them. We will also be getting our reading groups into place and beginning to learn new words and become fluent readers. As we proceed in math, we will have Home Links that will reinforce the skills that we have been working on. Please help your child complete them.
September also finds us learning about the author Eric Carle. We love his books, especially due to the fact that many deal with creatures we find around during our late summer and fall months. There is so much to learn and our days are very busy. Two, four, six, eight, first grade is great!!! So long from first grade.
