Scout Softball Team Opens Season

Slow starts lead to close losses

by Tom VanWinkle

September 05, 2008

The David City Scout Softball team opened the 2008 season on Thursday, August 28th by hosting a triangular with Conestoga and Raymond Central.  Brooke V. took on the pitching duties for the Scouts and allowed 3 earned runs over the course of the 14 innings in her high school debut.  The Scouts were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning of the first game but were not able to get the key hit throughout the game to put them over the top of a good Conestoga team and lost 6 to 3.

The second game brought much of the same as the Scouts were not able to get the key two out base hit to tie the game or put the Scouts in front.  The Scouts had opportunites with runners in scoring position throughout the second game but ended up on the losing end of a 4 to 2 score in the nightcap.

David City has new starters in every position but catcher this season which might be the reason for the slow beginning but as these new starters gain experience the team should gain more confidence and see better results.
