K-6 ART

November is always such an enjoyable time to enjoy the colors of the outdoors. We brought many of those same colors into the Art classroom during the month also. Kindergarteners explored the colors, textures, and shapes of fall by completing leaf rubbings of maple, oak, and giant sycamore leaves. They were also introduced to new materials in the form of oil pastels, as we designed a colorful turkey for Thanksgiving. The first grade classrooms are working on a collage including a painting technique in their finished work. Second grade has begun a project for Christmas involving printmaking, and will be eager to share their results.
Third graders have completed a study human proportion and have begun a shrink art holiday project using their own original designs. The fourth grade has begun work on a study of paper artist Robert Sabuda, and will share their skill in the art of Pop-ups with their families this year. The fifth grade and sixth grades have been reviewing the Elements of Design, with emphasis on value and space. They have also explored a variety of drawing techniques. They will be putting all of these skills together in a scratchboard design in December. We will be completing many seasonal and holiday projects in our classrooms over the next few weeks, and the results will be exciting.
