Book Fair
Thanks to the help of most of Yvonne Matulka’s 6th grade class, the Bellwood Scholastic Book Fair, held during Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 9, was a great success. $1458.69 worth of books (and some other items, such as pencils, toys, computer games/software) were purchased at the Fair. We were able to get $523.42 worth of books as profit. Most of the books that were appropriate for the library and which we don’t always own were able to be taken as profit. The book Fair puts a lot of great books in the hands of kids, both those purchased for kids and those which are added to the library. Thanks to everyone who purchased books!
The 6th graders demonstrated great leadership skills as they organized themselves to do the advertising, do book talks on books that they thought other students might be interested in, do the decorations and setting up of the Fair, do the sales during the Fair, and wear the Teacher From the Black Lagoon costume during the Fair. It’s always interesting and rewarding to see students “step up to the plate” and take responsibility for planning and executing a project without a lot of teacher direction. I am proud of the kids’ efforts. As recognition of their efforts, each student who participated in any way was given a choice of a poster.
