K-6 ART

All K-6 students have been hustling to finish a variety of Holiday or Seasonal projects this month. With all of the recent winter weather, their hard work in the month of December seems very fitting. The kindergarteners have completed a wintry collage with a variety of materials, and will soon begin work on some painting techniques. First grade also completed a collage including a painting technique in their finished project, and will began a seasonal project involving the changing shapes of a snowman from the book Snowmen At Night by Caralyn Buehner.
Second grade will share their printmaking skills with family members, and also learned about mirror images. They will move onto a review of the color wheel. A shrink art project was completed by the third graders, who were asked to come up with their own original designs. Originality will be important as they begin a study of pointillism after the Winter break. Fourth grade studied the paper artist Robert Sabuda, and will share their skill in the art of Pop-ups with their families this year. They worked hard and the result is very impressive. Please take time to look at more of this talented artist’s work at robertsabuda.com. We will bring perspective into their classroom in January with a study of one point perspective buildings.
Fifth grade has finished work on faux stained glass scratch art projects, and will also move onto a study of perspective techniques. Sixth grade has used their knowledge of hatching and cross-hatching to complete a Holiday scratch art card, and will begin with a clay project.
