Lady Scouts Begin Season 0-3

by Tracy Behrns

December 22, 2008

The David City Lady Scouts started their season December 4, 2008 against Centennial.  The Lady Scouts played an almost even first half with Centennial with a halftime score of 25 to 26.  The second half belonged to the Centennial Lady Broncos, outscoring the Lady Scouts 28 to 8 to win 54 to 33.  Turnovers, fouls, and lack of shot opportunities were the determining factors.  The Lady Scouts finished the game 16 of 46 from the floor and 1 of 3 from the free throw line.  The Scouts were led by Hannah B. with 11 points, while Justine R. and Miranda F. added 6 apiece.  Hannah B. led the rebounders with 11 and Miranda F. added 3.  The defensive effort can not be faulted with the Lady Scouts marking 14 steals and 9 blocks on the night.

The second night of basketball for the Lady Scouts did not turn out any better than the first night.  The Lady Scouts hosted the Lady Tigers of North Bend on Saturday, December 6.  The Lady Scouts were outscored 65 to 33.  North Bend shot lights out from the perimeter, as they usually do.  David City was led by Hannah B. with 11 points, while Morgan O. and Justine R. each added 8 points.  Hannah B. led the rebounders with 12 and Justine R. pulled down 6.  Hannah B. provided 5 of the 6 blocks and the team recorded 7 assists, 6 steals, and 26 turnovers for the night.  The team shot 11 of 40 from the floor and 10 of 16 from the free throw line.

The Lady Scouts had to wait another week for their third chance at a win, when they faced Fillmore Central on December 13 at home.  Unfortunately, a win was not in the picture for the Lady Scouts that day.  Fillmore Central defeated David City 52 to 26.  The Lady Scouts shot 11 of 46 from the floor and 4 of 13 from the free throw line.  Hannah B. led the team with 9 points and Morgan O. followed up with 7.  Rebounders were led by Morgan O. with 8 and Hannah B. with 6.  The Lady Scouts posted 21 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 steals, 2 blocks, and 20 fouls for the game.
