Preschool

Hello from Preschool!

We had a great time at our winter-themed Preschool Literacy Night on January 23rd.  19 families attended and had a fun time cycling through 6 learning stations.  We had one station where preschoolers had music/movement time, one station where preschoolers decorated a healthy gingerbread man snack, and 4 other stations where preschooler made take home learning activities.  At one station preschoolers made a winter sticker chart to practice number recognition and counting.  The second station had preschoolers make a snowflake letter recognition game board.  The third station had preschoolers make an “ice-fishing” game where they could “fish” and practice skills like shapes, colors, counting, patterning, etc.  The last center had preschoolers practicing writing letters, their names and words into “snow” (salt) in a container they got to take home.  A big thank you to all the families who attended, the Re-Charge kids who helped, and the preschool literacy night committee.  The multi-purpose room was also very festive as preschoolers made decorations including their painted snowmen, and painted snowflakes that were hanging up.  We look forward to having at-least one more preschool literacy night in the spring.

We have been talking about Polar Animals lately.  We learned about various polar animals like penguins, walruses, and polar bears.  We watched several online stories about Polar Animals:  one was fiction and one was nonfiction.  We pretended we were penguins and did a math activity where we estimated whether or not all of the preschoolers could fit onto our “iceberg.”  (a bed sheet).  We were surprised to see that even as I kept folding the sheet in half over and over, we could still fit a lot of preschoolers on the sheet.

It is so exciting to see how many of the preschoolers have learned or are close to learning their birthdays, phone numbers and addresses.  We go through these one on one daily with each child, and preschoolers actually type in their phone number on large phone cutouts.

Preschoolers were also very excited to be able to start checking out books from the elementary school library.  Please make sure to have your child return their book every Wednesday so they can check out a new book each week.

Our 100th Day of Preschool is coming up soon, which will be a big celebration!

I look forward to meeting with you at Parent Teacher Conferences.
