David City Elementary

Jim Bathen, Principal

A first grade parent gave me information about a Subway School Rewards Program that I had not heard about, so it must be fairly new because I eat at Subway at least once a month. This is a fundraising program that will give money back to our school for food purchased. This is like the Target program, but I have always shied away from enrolling our elementary the Target program because I do not want to encourage parents to shop out of town. Since we have a Subway in our town you would not have to shop out of town (other Subways out of town should honor your car) and a portion of the money you spend at Subway will come back to DC Elementary School.
Here’s how it would work. I will sign the school up. Subway will send us cards. One card will be sent home with the oldest child. The cards should be here within 2 to 4 weeks. Parents can pre-load the card at Subway or on-line and use the card when they eat there. Dad will have something to fall back on when he doesn’t want to cook. A portion of the money will be returned to our elementary. The money raised will be deposited in the elementary Parent Care Account to be used to purchase items for the school at a later date. Participation is not mandatory. Once the cards are sent home no one will know if you are participating or not.  I have always wanted to purchase a small portable microphone and speaker system for the multipurpose room, but that will be up to someone else next year.
Parent Teacher conferences were a success. After rescheduling conferences we had a 92% turnout. If you cancelled your conference I hope you will make an effort to set up a new time with your child’s classroom teacher. Thanks.
