We have been using a lot of color indoors to brighten things up a bit in the month of January.  Kindergarten has completed a review of the primary and secondary colors in a printing project.  They used found objects to print patterns resulting in a few messy fingers. We try to introduce them to a variety of materials and techniques at the primary level.  They are now working on a project based on the book “The Rainbow Fish”.  First grade has moved on to a review of color also in the form of a painted color wheel. The second grade students will spend the remainder of the month completing a watercolor wash portrait drawing.
The third grade is beginning work on a Pointillist painting in the style of French artist Georges Seurat. Fourth grade will soon be completing portraits also and will begin with a review of the basic techniques of perspective.  They will be continuing to work on a study of one point perspective buildings throughout the month of February.  They will also use many terms and skills used in their math curriculum to complete this project.  Fifth grades are also working on a one-point perspective project that expands into a building and landscape.  Sixth grade has begun a clay project.  We will review the many techniques that we have used to construct clay pieces in the past, and will see the transformation that the clay takes from bisque ware to kiln firing.
