Dear Families,

What a great first week of preschool we had!  Exploration was the main purpose of our first week of school.  The children spent most of their time learning about their classroom environment and the expectations the teachers have for them while at school.
Through stories, discussions, and visual aides the children learned all about the classroom rules which are: 1. We use kind and quiet words    2. We use gentle hands 3.  We use walking feet inside.  Some of the stories we shared this week which reinforced these concepts were How Do Dinosaurs Go To School?, Nico and Lola, and Mine-O-Saur.  Each of these books allowed us to share ideas of how we can become better friends. I am proud to announce EVERYONE was on green every day this week!  These rules go along with the 3 main goals of our school building:   1. Be respectful 2. Be responsible 2.  Be safe
Many of our Circle Time activities involved getting to know our classroom and our new friends better. For example we played “The Name Game” where we sang a song that included each of our friend’s names and the “Friendship March” where we took a friend’s hand and marched to the beat of the marching song.  We practiced making a line and waiting our turn by playing with our Caterpillar Tunnel. What a fun time we had!  The silliest activity we did all week was our “Silly Willy Dance”.  Ask your child how this dance goes.
Each learning center this week was dedicated to exploring each area in the room.  We painted at the easel and played with play dough in the art area.   We built towers, worked with table blocks, and put together puzzles in the block area.  We played at the rice table and water table in the science area.  We used scissors, markers, and glue in the writing center. We learned how to read and take care of our books in the book area.  As we explored in these areas, we learned how to put away and take care of all the awesome toys and tools we have in our classroom.

Some other activities of the week included:
 Dice Movement game
 Weekly Reader Time for School  issue
 Cover Up (board game)
 Can You Do What I do? (counting game)
 Pattern Block Puzzles
 Letter Cards
 Introduction of classroom map

Please note Thursday September 9th Kindergarten- 6th grade will not have school due to teacher in-service but preschool will be in session.
