Kevin Horner Live….

Speaking up for those who won’t speak for themselves.  Stop bullying, Take a Stand, Lend a Hand.
According to NEA, it is estimated that 160,000 kids per day skip school due to being a victim of bullying behaviors.  It has been estimated that more than two million youth in the U.S. are involved in bullying either as bullies, victims or both (Nansel et al. 2001).  According to Debra Pepler of York University in Canada the average time for a bullying episode on the playground is every 37 seconds.
Kevin Horner shared these startling statistics with the staff, students and their parents at the open house for Bellwood Attendance Center.  He also brought awareness to everyone who attended.  Mr. Horner defined what bullying is, what it sounds like, how it feels, and what it looks like.  He also gave kids safe steps to take when bullying is occurring.  He shared a story from his past about two boys he knew, one was being bullied and the other was the bully.  It home for some of our students, they had tears in their eyes.
Mr. Horner is a three-time “People’s Choice” award winning ventriloquist and a magician.  He used both of those skills as well as being a gifted communicator to inspire a heart change for one of the most important messages for kids in our world.
In his own words, he says:
“My heart breaks when I hear of kids that are victims of bullying.  When I hear of this kind of behavior I ask myself “what can I do to turn this around?”  My answer is to see an anti-bullying program set into motion in schools.  Using what talent I have, I believe that I can help steer young people in the right direction and help equip them to bring an end to school violence.”

Thank you Mr. Horner for sharing a part of yourself with our community.   If you would like more information, please call the school.
