Third Grade

Third graders have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring. It is hard to believe that April, and another school year, is coming to an end.
In math class, students have been continuing to “brush up” on learning our multiplication facts and how they relate to division. Various strategies, including the partial-product method and the lattice method of multiplying, have been introduced to help students calculate multi-digit problems. Using word problems with mixed operations are also being covered. We will finish the school reviewing units of measure.
We are very excited to explore a unit that is new to our Social Studies curriculum this year. Students are busy researching and preparing a presentation on various cultures around the world. The children are very excited to learn how these cultures are different from our culture and others.
In language class, third graders recently took the first Nebraska State Accountability Reading Test. The children spent a lot of mental energy completing this test. They put forth their best effort and we were proud of them.
Science students in 3-D have been learning about electricity and the various careers available in the field of science. Science in 3-O found us creating simple machines using very simple objects like string, spools, and straws. We will soon be exploring many different careers in the science world. A special thanks goes out to Mark Kirby and Scott Hoeft for coming again this year to do a presentation about electrical safety!
As teachers, we have experienced a rewarding and pleasant year with our students. We appreciate all of the parental help and support given throughout the year. Thank you for sharing your child with us.
