Close Loss Shows Promise for Season
The Lady Scouts opened their season November 29th against Centennial at home. The close loss showed great potential for the remainder of the season. The girls played the best I have seen in the opening game in a long time. The Broncos of Centennial beat the Lady Scouts 52 to 44. Even though the score shows an eight point loss, the game was really a four point game, but needing possession of the ball, the Lady Scouts had to foul and send them to the line. Unfortunately, the Broncos made their free throws to open the lead to eight. The Lady Scouts were 16 for 46 from the floor for 35%. They shot 9 of 16 from the free throw line for 56%. The girls pulled down 26 rebounds (14 defensive and 12 offensive), provided 12 assists, and stole the ball from the Broncos 15 times. The turnovers, which have plagued the Lady Scouts in years past were held to a minimum for the first game of the year tallying 17. Hannah B. was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder with 15 points and 12 rebounds to post here first double double of the season. Megan R. and Rebecca H. both contributed 6 points on the night. Megan R. also had a team high 7 steals. Everyone seeing considerable time found their way into the scorebook, which is a promising sign. All in all, the Lady Scouts have some things to improve on, but they have a lot of things to be proud of and build on for the remainder of the season. Catch the team’s spirit and run with it!
