Scouts Claim Second State Title
"Everything happens for a reason," said Hannah Thomas (otherwise known as Kalie B.) to her husband after arriving as an angel. No where was the statement more true than at the Merryman Performing Arts Center in Kearney, Nebraska, where the Scouts claimed their second state title in three years (and second-ever in school history). The Scouts, who performed "An Amazing Grace," defeated Bridgeport, who performed "Oedipus Rex," by ranking a 1-1-3, while Bridgeport ended with a 1-2-3 ranking. This is the sixth in eight years that the Scouts have qualified for state and brought home either first or second place.
While the going wasn't always easy, the Scouts performed like true champions, overcoming difficulties and helping each other out to bring home a winner. Madi S. also claimed the Best Female Performer Award, the first ever in school history. Her character, Sasha Simms undergoes a change in her behavior and attitude, a trait that wasn't lost on the judges. Additionally, her tear-jerking rendition of the song Amazing Grace probably didn't hurt her chances either. A total of six people were recognized for superior acting (the next closest team had only four...Crofton): Jesse B., Michaela H., Abbi B., Weston S., Cody K., and, of course, Madi.
