Lady Scouts Secure Second Win in a Row
Sickness Doesn't Stop Lady Scouts
Tuesday, January 22, the Lady Scouts (1-12) faced the Lady Chieftains of Yutan (6-7). The Lady Scouts came away victorious with a 40 to 36 win. The game was close all the way. The Lady Scouts scored 7 in the 1st, 14 in the 2nd, 6 in the 3rd, and 13 in the 4th. The Lady Chieftains scored 5 in the 1st, 10 in the 2nd, 6 in the 3rd, and 15 in the 4th. The ball game came down to who won the second quarter, and luckily that was David City. The Lady Scouts were coming off their first win of the season against Malcolm and felt they had a good chance against a new Yutan varsity team. Yutan lost the majority of their varsity team from last year and the JV game was closely played last year. However, sickness entered the picture over the weekend and numerous players missed school on Monday and didn’t look much better Tuesday night. The Lady Scouts production with many ill from the day before was in question. David City came out ready to play and played hard until the end. The win may not have been pretty, but a win is a win. The Lady Scouts were led by Hannah B. with 14 and Sabrina M., Justine R., and Morgan O. all added 7 points. Morgan O. led rebounders with 8 and Rebecca H. added another 7. As a team the Lady Scouts were 13 of 36 from the floor for 36% and 13 of 22 from the free throw line for 59%. The Lady Scouts turned the ball over 29 times to the Lady Chieftains 21. David City posted 30 rebounds to their 19. The team finished with 9 assists, 9 steals, and 4 blocks.
The Lady Scouts will be in action again Friday night at Shelby. The Varsity will play at 6:15 in the main gym and the JV will follow in the smaller gym. The girls will then travel to Sandy Creek on Saturday to start the first round of the Conference Tournament. Game time is scheduled for 1:00PM.
