Happy New Year!

Wow! 2012 already! I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday break! It was very exciting to hear all the news from the kindergarten class. So many people to see, places to go, and things to do! It was fun to see what Santa brought and hear the excitement still present in their voices! It was a great way to start off the New Year! It will be a wonderful and busy new year in the kindergarten classroom! I can’t wait to see what 2012 brings for our class!
Snowflakes!

Snowflakes are beautiful and unique; each one with its own special detail and style! The same can be said for our class! We have become good friends and enjoy working together! We studied four types of snowflakes, looking at how they are built and the number of their sides. We learned that snowflakes grow as they fall and that they form in Cirrus clouds!
Martin Luther King Jr.

In January we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day! We talked about why he is important and why we celebrate the holiday. Throughout this discussion we went over how we are all special on the inside and that is what is most important! We made sure to take time to compliment each other and be a good friend!
The World!

We are beginning to explore our world! Well…at least using a globe and maps. We have enjoyed finding locations on the globe and talking about the oceans and continents. We found where we are located on the globe as well as various people around the world. We are also studying maps. We are finding the United States, Nebraska and Bellwood!
Other Studies!
We are finding that reading is fun! We will continue to build on our reading and writing skills by learning double phonograms, finding word families and practicing sight words.
In math we are working on ordinal numbers, shapes, and counting by 2s, 5s and 10s! We are also working on measurement.
We are also studying Arctic Animals in unit studies. We are learning what animals live in the arctic and how they live. We are also completing experiments to learn how they stay warm!
