Wow, the school year has flown by!! The Fifth Graders have learned a lot this year and are ready to move up to the Sixth Grade. As Thomas Alva Edison said, "Genius is simply hard work - 1% INSPIRATION AND 99% PERSPIRATION." With summer coming and the warmer weather, the students are having a hard time concentrating on school, but we will do our best to finish school with flying colors.
We have been working hard on getting ready for our story problems assessment and now have officially taken it. The remainder of the year will be spent on working with probability and a few experiments. Hopefully, there will be time for a little project at the end!
In Science we are doing an Invention Unit. The students are learning about famous inventors and their inventions, as well as coming up with some creative inventions using everyday items. They will be creating ice-cream and popsicles. They will also invent new toothpaste flavors and then advertise their new product. "Imagination is more important than knowledge," a quote from Albert Einstein.
The students have enjoyed learning Spanish from the High School students. To end the year the Spanish students, the Family Consumer Science students, and the two fifth grade classrooms are planning a Spanish Fiesta. The Family Consumer Science students are making some Spanish dishes for us to try. The Spanish students have taught us how to have conversations in Spanish plus they helped us make decorations. Mrs. Muesch also helped by having the students make Rattles or Maracas in Art. Finally the 5th Graders researched Spanish Countries and made posters to share what they learned about these countries.
In English, the students have researched authors of their choice. The students collected information from biographies and internet sites. Then they wrote a research report to present. They prepared power point visuals to show while they presented their research. The students have become very skilled in power point and learned a lot about many authors.
ECRI has taught us many words and introduced us to many stories. Soon we will be reading a chapter book together and doing some activities with the story. We have also done the State Reading test and the GORT which will help show the progress they have made in reading this past year.
With the end of the school year quickly approaching, the students and teachers are getting excited for summer. But both are determined to finish everything we need to do, with their best qualities.
