Hard Fought Second Half Fall Three Points Short

After Saturday night's game, the Lady Scouts have started the season off 0-5.  You would have never believed it if you saw the second half of the game on Saturday.  The Lady Scouts lost their leading scorer a few minutes into the first quarter with a head injury from being slammed to the floor.  Hannah would sit out the remainder of the first half, while Columbus Lakeview jumped out to a 28-11 lead.  The second half belonged to the Scouts though, outscoring the Viqueens 44 to 30.  However, the 17 point lead Lakeview had built up in the first half and the fact that the Lady Scout shot 13 for 30 from the free throw line, proved too much to overcome.  The effort shown in the second half by the Lady Scouts gives great hope for the rest of the season.  The Lady Scouts finished 21 of 46 from the floor and 13 of 30 from the free throw line to post their highest scoring game of 55.  Hannah B. was the leading scorer with 27 points and Justine R. added 11.  Morgan O. was the leading rebounder on the night with 13 followed by Justine R. with 9.  Nikki R. dished out 6 assists, while Hannah B. added 3 blocks in the second half.

Friday night the Lady Scouts had traveled to East Butler to face the Lady Tigers.  The Lady Scouts were defeated 74 - 46.  David City played well in the second and fourth quarters almost even with the Lady Tigers, but the first and third quarters cost them, being outscored 37 to 15.  Fouls and turnovers created problems for the team.  Hannah B. and Justine R. led the team with 13 points each.  Morgan O. added 9 and Melanie H. added seven.  The team finished 19 of 56 from the floor and 8 of 19 from the free throw line.  The Lady Scouts out rebounded the Lady Tigers with Hannah B. pulling down 9 boards and Justine R. adding in 7 more.

The Lady Scouts will be in action again Monday, December 29, 2008 at 6:00 against the Columbus JV in the David City Holiday Tournament.
