Lady Scouts Earn Second Place Trophy In Holiday Tournament

The Lady Scouts captured their first trophy in the holiday tournament in years.  The Lady Scouts played the Columbus JV team in the first round of tournament action on December 29, 2008.  David City jumped out to an early lead with a score of 15 to 8 at the end of the first quarter and 27 to 20 at the end of the first half.  In the end, the Lady Scouts outscored Columbus in three of the four quarter to end the game 49 to 40.  The team ended the game shooting 15 of 46 from the floor for 32.6% and 19 of 24 from the line for 79.2%.  The team was able to grab 30 rebounds with Hannah B. grabbing 13 and Nikki R. and Morgan O. each adding 4.  Leading the way in scoring was Hannah B. with 20 and Nikki R. with 11.  The team also posted 11 assists, 11 steals, 2 blocks, and 19 turnovers.  The victory against Columbus gave the Lady Scouts their first win of the season and placed them in the Championship game against Aquinas the following day.

Tuesday, December 30 did not go as well as the Lady Scouts would hope.  Aquinas, ranked in C-2, was able to outscore the Lady Scouts in all four quarters.  The quickness and the inside play by Aquinas was too much for the Lady Scouts to handle.  Only four girls scored for the Lady Scouts with Hannah B. leading the way with 16, Nikki R. added 6, and Justine R. and Morgan O. each added 2.  The team finished with 10 of 32 from the floor and 4 of 7 from the line.  The Lady Scouts were only able to grab 15 rebounds, dish out 8 assists, steal the ball 7 times, and block 2 shots.  As a team, the Lady Scouts turned the ball over 22 times and committed 11 fouls.  Even though the game did not go as the Lady Scouts would have liked, they did walk away with the second place trophy for the first time in a long time.
