Second Half Decides Outcome in both Games Over the Weekend

The David City Lady Scouts traveled Friday, January 16 to Cross County to take on the Lady Cougars.  At the end of the first half the score was tied, leaving the second half to determine each teams fate.  The Lady Scouts were outscored in the last two quarters by a total of 8 points to end the game 58 to 50.  This was the second highest scoring game of the season so far with 6 players scoring in the competition.  Hannah B. led scorers with 25.  Justine R. and Morgan O. each had 6, Melanie H. had 5, and Miranda F. and Staci O. added 4 apiece.  The Lady Scouts finished the night 22 of 61 from the floor and 5 of 12 from the free throw line.  David City out rebounded the Lady Cougars 46 to 41 with Hannah B. pulling down 22 of the 46 boards.  Almost reaching double figures in rebounding was Justine R. with 9.  Even though the team kept turnovers down to a minimum and out rebounded the Lady Cougars, they still turned the ball over at the wrong time and got beat to the boards, which cost them in the end.

Saturday, January 17 sent the Lady Scouts to Malcolm to take on the Lady Clippers.  Once again, the second half would determine the ending with the scored tied at half-time 23 - 23.  The Lady Scouts were outscored by one point in each of the remaining quarters to end the game 44 - 42.  The team shot 14 of 35 from the floor and 13 of 24 from the free throw line to be led by Hannah B. with 19.  Justine R. added 10 points to the cause and Melanie H. added 5.  Once again the Lady Scouts were the leaders of the boards posting a 34 - 25 rebounding difference.  Hannah B. led rebounders with 11 and Morgan O. added 8 more.  Turnovers were up a little from the night before and free throw shooting was once again not on our side.  Cut down on the turnovers and hit a few more free throws and the Lady Scouts could have claimed their first varsity victory of the season.

The Lady Scouts will continue in their quest for that first win, but you will have to wait until January 27 to see them in action again.  David City will travel to Yutan on the 27th to face the Lady Chieftains, Lutheran High Northeast will come to David City January 29, and the Lady Huskies of Shelby will visit David City on Friday, January 30.
