Scout Speech Team Shows Improvement
Lincoln Southwest Silver Talon Invitational
Heading into the second competitive speech meet, the Scouts knew they had tremendous room for improvement and would have to invest the time and effort to compete at the Lincoln Southwest Silver Talon Invitational. While the sixth place effort the week before at Raymond Central was okay, the Scout standards were much higher. After a school record thirteen medals, the team showed what a difference a week can make. Out of the thirty predominantly Class A teams, defending Class A Champion Lincoln East dominated the competition by medaling thirty-five events and scoring 395 points. The Scouts ended up in 5th place as a team with 178 points, behind only Millard North, Kearney, and Bellevue East. Three states and over 650 entries were represented at the meet.
Dillon H. and Brad M. brought home a bronze medal in duet acting. Emma M.'s fourth place in entertainment and fifth place in thematic interpretation led the Scouts. Staci O. also scored two medals by placing 4th in informative and 10th in impromptu. The OID team of Courtney B., Lucas S., Alissa T., and Christina O. placed 5th. Courtney B. also added two medals by qualifying for semi-finals in serious prose and placing 12th in thematic interpretation. Elizabeth H. placed 8th in extemporaneous and qualified for the semi-finals in persuasive speaking. Cody K. placed 10th in poetry. The duet acting groups of Elizabeth E. and Lukas F. as well as Christian F. and Craig H. both qualified for the semi-final rounds earning medals.
