Girls End Year with Victory

On January 30, the reserve girls basketball team hosted the David City Invite which featured Aquinas, Wahoo Neumann, Fairbury, and David City. The Scouts faced Fairbury in the opening round. The Jeffs jumped out to a 14-10 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. In the 2nd the Scouts played very tough defense and held Fairbury scoreless in the quarter, bringing the score to 14-14 at the half. In the second half, the girls continued to play great defense and went on to win the game 32-27. Scoring for the Scouts were Ashley B. with 17, Ashley L. with 10, Dana V. with 4, and Nicole C. with 1.
In the championship, the Scouts faced a tough team from Wahoo Neumann. The girls could not keep up with the scoring pace of Neumann and fell behind early in the game. Full court pressure by the Cavaliers also gave the Scouts some problems throughout the game and in the end David City was defeated 41-19. Scoring for the Scouts were Dana V. with 7, Ashley B. with 5, Nicole C. with 5, and Ashley L. with 2.
On February 2, the girls faced off against Raymond Central in front of the home crowd. The Scouts had trouble breaking the press and scoring against the Mustang’s match up zone defense. Raymond Central defeated the Scouts 44-22. Scoring for the Scouts were Julia B. with 8, Ashley B. with 7, Dana V. with 3, Ashley L. with 2, and Nicole C. with 2.
On February 4, the Scouts traveled to Shelby to face the Huskies for there last game of the season. The girls were very focused on getting back on the winning track after two consecutive losses. They proved that they came ready to play by jumping out to a 15-7 1st quarter lead. In the 2nd quarter, each team could only put 4 points on the board and the halftime score was 19-11. The Scouts took control of the game for good in the 3rd and outscored the Huskies 17-5 in the quarter. In the end the Scouts defeated the Huskies 45-24. It was a great way to end the season for the girls. Scoring for the Scouts were Dana V. with 11, Ashley B. with 10, Nicole C. with 8, Sara K. with 7, and Julia B. with 7.
The girls finished the season with a 4-4 record. They showed a great deal of improvement throughout the season. Thank you to all of the fans that supported us throughout the year!
