Scouts win the Ft. Calhoun Invite
For the second year in a row the Lady Scout volleyball team won the Ft. Calhoun Invite. The Scouts defeated DC West 25-15, 28-26 and later defeated Ft. Calhoun 25-16, 25-14. The Scouts really served tough in both matches, had a more balanced attack and was better on Serve Receive passing. Against DC West trailing 10 to 11 Shayla N. took over serving with 11 serves in a row putting the Scouts up 20 to 11. Hillary S. served out the set with an ace on game point. In the second set the Scouts took control and built an 18 to 12 lead. DC West fought back to tie it at 18 all and then it became a back and forth point game being tied at 22 to 22, 24 to 24, 26 to 26 and Hillary S. ace serve and Becky B. served 6 points in a row and the final point to win 28 to 26. During the first set Shayla N. broke the school record for Most Ace Serves in a Career, Shayla now has 134 ace serves and counting. The Scouts played Ft. Calhoun, who had defeated Logan View earlier. Shayla N. got the Scouts going with 7 ace serves on her first 10 serves giving the Scouts an early lead of 11 to 4. Shayla also served up the last three points of the 1st set helping the Scouts win 25-16. In the 2nd set the Scouts put several long scoring runs to build a 18 to 12 lead. Brooke F. put together 4 points in a row and Dana V. finished off the match with set point 25 to 14. On the day the Scouts served 92% with a total of 22 aces, 37 kills and 50 digs. The Scouts really improved in several areas from the first match of the season. The Scouts two setters in Ashley F. and Dana V. did an excellent job of mixing up the offense making the Scouts attack stronger. It was a good team win in that all players contributed in a positive way. The Scouts are now 2 and 1 on the season and will host Tri-County on Tuesday night at the Activities Center.
