High School Graduation Requirements

REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION

Current as of 3-8-2010

The graduation requirements for David City Public Schools students shall be 240 academic credits.


Students must successfully complete the following course requirements to be eligible for graduation:


4 years of English: (40 credits)  

3.5 years of Social Studies: (35 credits) 1 year of World History, 2 years of American History, and 1 semester of American Government. (Economics, geography, and modern problems taught within the context of the required classes; psychology, sociology, and AP Human Geography are elective classes)  

3 years of Mathematics: (30 credits)

3 years of Science: (30 credits) (One year must be a Natural Science and one
year a Physical Science)  Plant and Soil Science from the Agriculture department may be used for 5 credits of the Science requirement

1 year (10 credits) Computer Applications (Computer Applications II or Information Technology Applications I)

1 year: (10 credits) Career and Technical Education Elective classes or Fine Arts elective classes

1 Semester (5 credits) Personal Finance (taken from either Business or FCS department)

1 Semester (5 credits) Physical Education

1 Semester: (5 credits) Health

1 Semester: (5 credits) Speech


Upon completion of above required courses 175 credits will be earned. The remaining required 65 credits can be from elective classes. The majority of students will earn at least 280 credits.
