Members gather for a group picture at the kick-off picnic at the David City park on Friday, September 1.

FCCLA kicked off the year with a picnic at the park, but this is barely the beginning of their year! The Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, or FCCLA, is a nationwide organization that focuses on Family and Consumer sciences and community service in the schools and communities that they are a part of. There are over 237,000 members, more than 7,000 advisors, and around 5,100 chapters around the country.

The David City chapter of FCCLA has so many events planned this year, and everyone is looking forward to different events that will involve community service and other activities.

“I love traveling with my members as they experience new adventures," said Tonya Zegers, lead coach for the David City FCCLA team. When asked to describe FCCLA in three words, Zegers summed it up as: “Ultimate Leadership Experience.”

FCCLA president Kaitlyn Palik loves “meeting new people." Palik says she is looking forward to going to FCCLA Nationals the most.

"I know that this is going to be an outstanding year for FCCLA, for all of the members new and old."
