David City-  It was a beautiful day to attend the District 5 FCCLA Leadership Conference.  The fallen leaves on the ground, dust from the combines floating in the air, and the silence of 20 FCCLA members resting on the bus before embarking on a new adventure. An experience that would introduce them to other students in the District from 11 other schools.  The opportunity to learn more about the mission of FCCLA and what it is all about. Finally, the activities that give us new ideas to bring back to our chapter.

The day began with the Creed Speaking Contest and Donuts.  We were welcomed by a staff member of CCC and then David City Chapter led the Installation of the District Officers. “I felt our students did an excellent job representing themselves and our school,” said Mrs. Zegers. This year, students had the opportunity to learn about MADD and their purpose.  Students listened to how the organization started and their focus for the future. The speaker shared their successes and spoke about their goals.  Howells-Dodge led a mixer that got the member's blood flowing. The 365 members broke into three large groups to experience interaction with the National Guard, participate in Stress Reliever Activities, and take time to eat lunch. Mini Sessions were 25 minutes each and students were able to pick two to attend. The day was wrapped up around 2:00 p.m. with awards and prizes.  David City had 1st place Creed Speaking Senior- Neil Olson and 2nd place Creed Speaking Senior- Joey Scribner. Harper Hermelbracht also brought home 1st place in the poster contest.  For fun, the district hands out door prizes to those who attended the conference.  Cami Hjort, Abby Lindsley, and Catlyn Kratochvil all brought a prize home.

As we rode the bumpy bus home the members reclined in the seats and relaxed from the day's adventures.  The sun was shining and harvest continued.  Members will take what they learn and become more knowledgeable and more serving as they grow. “Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.” – Chinese Proverb
