FCCLA Nov. Collage

FCCLA, an acronym for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is a remarkable national student organization dedicated to fostering leadership and personal development among students in family and consumer sciences education. This organization offers invaluable opportunities for young individuals to cultivate their leadership skills, explore various career paths, and make a positive impact within their communities.

The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of a recent FCCLA meeting that took place on November 20th. 26 members were in attendance. During the meeting, we provided information on both old and new business matters, addressing important topics such as fundraising and STAR competition. Our President, Kaitlyn Palik, led the group through the opening ceremony and creed. The treasurer's report indicated a balance of $2039.45.

Regarding old business, we reminded everyone that the second round for paying dues will conclude on December 15th. Dues amount to $20 per member. Additionally, we still have shirts available for purchase at the reasonable price of $10. Chloe Z and Ellie B then provided a a quick report on the District Leadership Conference that took place at CCC Columbus on October 16th. They shared the impactful presentation by MADD, as well as other sessions offered to our members. Cassandra M, Catlym K, and Jacob L presented on the successful Winter Clothing Drive that also occurred in October. Although the schools were not in need of many of the donated items, our dedicated FCCLA members, Alexis K and Aubrey J, took it upon themselves to deliver these items to our local Blue Valley Secondhand store, where they can benefit the David City community. This event allowed our students to get involved and make a meaningful contribution to their community. Mrs. Zegers then reported on the Rural Connection Meals and Delivery, as Hannah P. and Emily V. could not attend. They prepared Thanksgiving desserts and delivered them to St. Luke's Methodist Church. Families were exceedingly pleased with the quality and presentation of our generous donation.

Moving on to new business, we discussed our upcoming Skills Night. In this month's session, FCCLA members had the opportunity to make fruit pies for their families. We were delighted to see Rylee T, Rilynn F, Natalia T, Chloe Z, and Ellie B take advantage of this excellent opportunity. Please refer to the provided photos for a glimpse of their creations. Our next meeting will be held on December 11th, where we will celebrate with a Christmas Party filled with games and a $5 treat bag exchange. Members are kindly requested to fill their bags with snack items, ensuring they do not exceed the $5 limit.

In terms of fundraising, we have recently launched the "We Help TWO" sock fundraiser. This incredible initiative aims to support those in need by giving back. For every three packages of socks sold, We Help Two donates one pair of socks back to us. This year, we are donating socks to our local nursing homes. Each pair is warm and cozy, with rubbery nobs on the bottom to keep our elderly community warm and safe. We firmly believe in the power of giving back and wholeheartedly encourage community members to purchase these socks for a meaningful cause. Socks will be available for sale at home games on December 5th, 7th, 9th, and 20th. The prices are as follows: $6 for a single pair, $7 for Scouts Socks, and $15 for packs of three crazy socks (each with a unique design).

Lastly, Abby Lindsey, the Vice President of STAR Events, delivered a presentation to encourage our members to participate. She displayed her dedication and motivation throughout her presentation.

As we enter the holiday season, the FCCLA members would like to extend our warmest wishes for a joyful and peaceful time with your loved ones. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email Mrs. Zegers at zegers@dcscouts.org.
